联合国生物多样性公约网站 recently featured a report submitted by China to the seventh National Implementation Review, showcasing an exceptional case from Handan's Fuxing District. Known as the "industrial area transformed into a biological paradise," this project represents one of the country's urban biodiversity achievements that has been globally recognized.
In the past, Fuxing District was a traditional industrial zone heavily reliant on steel and coal chemicals production. However, in recent years, local authorities have taken comprehensive measures to address environmental issues by integrating pollution reduction with ecological restoration. Through these efforts, they have successfully transformed the once scarred urban landscape into a thriving ecosystem characterized by lush greenery and vibrant biodiversity.
As International Day for Biological Diversity approaches on May 22nd, experts
